BMW has officially unveiled the iX3, the first production model from its futuristic Neue Klasse lineup, marking a new era in the company’s electric mobility journey. Equipped with sixth-generation eDrive technology, the all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) promises up to 805 kilometers of range on a single charge and 400kW ultra-fast charging, setting new benchmarks in the segment. Production will begin in November 2025.

Performance and Powertrain

The flagship iX3 50 xDrive variant delivers 345kW (469hp) and 645Nm of torque through dual electric motors, enabling 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. Power comes from a 108.7kWh cylindrical lithium-ion battery running on an 800V system, designed for both efficiency and performance.

Charging and Range

  • DC Fast Charging: Up to 400kW, adding 372 km in just 10 minutes
  • Range: Up to 805 km (WLTP cycle)
  • AC Charging: Standard 11kW, optional 22kW (full charge in ~5h 45m at 22kW)

For the first time in a BMW, the iX3 supports bidirectional charging, enabling Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), and even Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functions, effectively turning the car into a mobile power source.

Neue Klasse Technology Platform

The iX3 debuts BMW’s new zonal electronics architecture, featuring four high-performance computers with 20x more processing power than previous models. This forms the backbone for software-defined features and over-the-air updates.

Key innovations include:

  • Heart of Joy system for precise driving dynamics
  • Dynamic Performance Control for integrated drivetrain management
  • Soft Stop technology recovering energy during 98% of everyday braking

Digital Experience and Automation

Inside, the iX3 introduces BMW Panoramic iDrive with Operating System X, combining a futuristic Central Display, 3D Head-Up Display, and advanced steering controls.

Sustainability

BMW says the iX3 achieves a CO₂ break-even point after about 21,500 km when charged via Europe’s energy mix—or just 17,500 km when using renewable energy.

Sustainability highlights:

  • One-third of materials from secondary sources
  • Recycled marine plastics in components
  • 100% recycled PET in seat fabrics and carpets
  • 35% reduction in supply chain CO₂ emissions

The iX3 also consumes 20% less energy than its predecessor in WLTP testing.

Dimensions and Utility

  • Length: 4,782mm | Width: 1,895mm | Height: 1,635mm
  • Wheelbase: 2,897mm
  • Weight: 2,285kg (DIN)
  • Boot capacity: 520–1,750 liters + 58 liters front storage
  • Towing capacity: Up to 2,000kg (braked)

Launch Timeline

BMW Chairman Oliver Zipse called the Neue Klasse “our biggest future project” and “a huge leap in technology, driving experience, and design.” He confirmed that 40 models will adopt Neue Klasse technologies by 2027.

The iX3 will go on sale in Europe in spring 2026, followed by the US in summer 2026, with production starting at BMW’s fossil-free Debrecen plant in Hungary.

⚡ With its record range, ultra-fast charging, AI-driven features, and sustainability-first design, the BMW iX3 is being hailed as more than just a new electric SUV—it’s the beginning of BMW’s boldest transformation yet.
