BMW Motorrad has officially launched the new generation of its hyper-naked motorcycle, the BMW S 1000 R, in India. Priced at ₹19.90 lakh (ex-showroom), the superbike arrives as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and brings sharper styling, advanced features, and performance upgrades compared to its predecessor.

With its roots in the BMW S 1000 RR superbike, the S 1000 R is aimed at riders who want extreme performance in a street-friendly naked motorcycle. Let’s take a closer look at what makes this bike one of the most exciting launches of the year.

Engine and Performance

At the heart of the new BMW S 1000 R is a 999 cc, inline four-cylinder, oil/water-cooled engine. This powerplant produces 170 hp at 11,000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque at 9,250 rpm.

The numbers translate into thrilling performance on the road. The bike can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, putting it in the league of some of the fastest naked bikes globally. Top speed is equally impressive at 250 km/h, making it one of the most powerful motorcycles in its class.

Design and Styling Updates

BMW has made several changes to refresh the look of the S 1000 R while keeping its iconic identity intact. The split-face LED headlight design remains, but the bike now features a revised bodywork for a sleeker, sportier appearance.

The rear section has been reworked, featuring a short and aggressive license plate holder. In addition, the turn signals and license plate lights are now integrated into a single compact unit, giving the motorcycle a more modern and clean look.

Buyers also get to choose from three striking paint options:

  • Blackstorm Metallic
  • Bluefire/Mugiallo Yellow (available only with Style Sport)
  • Lightwhite Uni/M Motorsport (exclusive to the M package)

Standard Features

The new S 1000 R is loaded with advanced features that make it both rider-friendly and performance-oriented. Standard equipment includes:

  • Headlight Pro with daytime running lights for better visibility.
  • M quick action throttle for lightning-fast response.
  • Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR) to prevent wheel slip during aggressive downshifts.
  • Three riding modes – Rain, Road, and Dynamic – tailored for different conditions.
  • Hill Start Control, making steep starts easier.
  • 6.5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity and USB charging socket.
  • Full LED lighting across the motorcycle.
  • Six-axis sensor box that powers features like ABS Pro and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC).

Customisation and Packages

BMW is offering multiple optional packages to let customers personalise their S 1000 R. Each package enhances the bike in different ways.

The Dynamic Package adds Dynamic Damping Control, Pro Riding Modes, Shift Assistant Pro, and an engine spoiler. This option is for riders who want track-focused performance and maximum control.

The Comfort Package brings Keyless Ride, cruise control, heated grips, and tyre pressure monitoring. This is ideal for riders planning longer journeys or touring.

For those who want the ultimate version, the M Sport Package steps things up with the exclusive M colour scheme, M sport seat, M fuel filler cap, lightweight battery, sports silencer, M Endurance chain, GPS Laptrigger, and forged wheels. It transforms the S 1000 R into a machine that feels directly inspired by BMW’s racing DNA.

Price and Availability

The new BMW S 1000 R has been launched in India at an ex-showroom price of ₹19.90 lakh. Being imported as a CBU, the motorcycle sits in the premium performance segment, competing with rivals like the Ducati Streetfighter V4, Kawasaki Z H2, and Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS.

Deliveries are expected to begin soon across BMW Motorrad dealerships in India.

Final Thoughts

With its aggressive design, thrilling performance, and premium features, the new BMW S 1000 R brings superbike-level excitement to the hyper-naked category. It blends practicality with adrenaline, making it a strong contender for riders looking for both style and speed.

While the price positions it as a premium offering, the package of power, technology, and customisation makes it stand out in the segment. For enthusiasts who want a bike that can turn heads on city roads and dominate on highways, the BMW S 1000 R is a machine worth considering.
