New Delhi, September 3, 2025: Aprilia is preparing to launch updated versions of its popular scooters, the SR 125 and SR 160, in India. Recently spotted testing alongside the upcoming Aprilia Tuono 357, both scooters are expected to receive significant feature upgrades and compliance updates to stay competitive in the fast-growing premium scooter segment.
New Console and Features
One of the biggest changes will be an updated digital console. The current LCD units have been criticized for being too basic, especially when rivals like the TVS NTorq offer richer connected features.
The new console is likely to bring:
- Smartphone connectivity
- Turn-by-turn navigation
- More detailed ride statistics
This update will give Aprilia’s scooters a much-needed edge against competitors.
Engine and OBD-2B Compliance
Both scooters are expected to become OBD-2B compliant, in line with India’s updated emission standards.
- Aprilia SR 125: 124.45cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing 10.11 PS and 10.33 Nm
- Aprilia SR 160: 160.03cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing 11.27 PS and 13.44 Nm
No major performance changes are expected apart from compliance upgrades.
Design and Suspension
The overall design will remain sporty and aggressive, retaining Aprilia’s signature sharp styling. Both scooters will continue with the same telescopic fork at the front and monoshock suspension at the rear, ensuring a balance of stability and comfort.
Pricing and Launch Timeline
Currently, the Aprilia SR 125 is priced at ₹1.21 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra), while the SR 160 is priced at ₹1.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). The updated models are expected to launch in the coming weeks with a price hike of ₹5,000 – ₹10,000.
Rivals in the Segment
The updated SR 125 and SR 160 will continue to face stiff competition from:
- TVS NTorq 125
- Hero Xoom 160
- Yamaha Aerox 155
- Ola S1 Pro
- Ather 450X
Conclusion
The Aprilia SR 125 and SR 160 updates aim to keep the scooters relevant in India’s rapidly evolving premium scooter space. With a new digital console, OBD-2B compliance, and a modest price hike, they promise to offer a better balance of style, performance, and connectivity.
