BMW has officially unveiled the Neue Klasse iX3, its next-generation electric SUV, marking a major step in the German automaker’s push to expand its premium EV lineup and recapture market share in China, its largest global market.
The iX3 is the first model under BMW’s Neue Klasse (“new class”) branding, a dedicated range of next-gen EVs that will define the company’s design and technology direction for years to come. Production will begin later this year, with sales in Europe starting March 2026 at a base price of €68,900 ($80,700), according to Reuters.
Long Range and Ultra-Fast Charging
BMW says the Neue Klasse iX3 delivers more than 800 km of driving range on a single charge. Thanks to its advanced charging technology, the SUV can also add 370 km of range in just 10 minutes, setting a new benchmark for BMW’s EV portfolio.
BMW CEO Oliver Zipse, speaking at the Munich showcase ahead of the IAA Mobility auto show, called the iX3 a “completely new model generation” and a “massive leap that will shape the entire brand for years to come.”
Key to BMW’s Global EV Strategy
The iX3 plays a central role in BMW’s Neue Klasse expansion, which will see multiple EV launches in the coming years. Analysts believe this lineup is particularly vital for BMW’s recovery in China, where European automakers face mounting pressure from fast-growing domestic brands.
In a note, Deutsche Bank analysts said:
“Neue Klasse’s success in China will require a careful balancing act: adapting to local market demands and implementing a pricing strategy that resonates with Chinese consumers.”
The Bigger Picture
As global automakers double down on electric mobility, BMW is positioning the Neue Klasse iX3 as a flagship product to win back premium EV customers, especially in competitive markets like China and Europe. With its blend of long range, ultra-fast charging, and premium design, the iX3 could set the tone for BMW’s EV future.
