Kia has officially unveiled the 2026 version of its popular compact crossover, the Kia Stonic, featuring a comprehensive redesign inside and out, along with updated petrol and mild-hybrid powertrain options. The Ford Puma and Nissan Juke rival has first been revealed in its Korean specification, while details for the European market will be announced soon.
A Heavily Updated Compact Crossover
First launched in 2017, the Stonic has already undergone a series of facelifts. The 2026 update marks its second major overhaul, ensuring compliance with upcoming EU7 emissions regulations and aligning its design more closely with Kia’s modern lineup, including the EV3.
The new Stonic sports the brand’s latest ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, giving it a bolder front fascia and a sleeker overall stance. Despite the design evolution, the dimensions remain unchanged: the crossover measures 4165mm in length, 1760mm in width, and offers a 352-litre boot capacity.
Engine and Performance Options
Under the hood, Korean buyers will get two versions of the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, carried over from the outgoing Stonic.
- Standard petrol engine:
- Output: 99 bhp
- Torque: 127 lb ft
- 0-62 mph: 11.0 seconds
- CO2 emissions: 125–133 g/km (depending on specification)
- Mild-hybrid petrol engine:
- Output: 113 bhp
- Torque: 127 lb ft
- 0-62 mph: 10.7 seconds
- CO2 emissions: 120–129 g/km
Both versions will be available with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
For the UK, specifications are yet to be confirmed. The current Stonic is offered with two versions of the 1.0 T-GDi petrol engine producing 98 bhp, with varying levels of electrical assistance.
Exterior and Wheel Options
Kia has also updated the wheel designs, offering 16-inch and 17-inch alloys depending on the trim level. These refreshed designs give the crossover a sharper and more premium road presence.
A Smarter, Modernized Cabin
Step inside, and the 2026 Kia Stonic mirrors Kia’s latest models with a tech-focused cabin overhaul. The highlights include:
- Twin 12.3-inch digital displays for infotainment and driver information
- Multimode touch controls, which allow drivers to switch between heating and infotainment functions seamlessly
- Enhanced connectivity features, including a digital key option for smartphone-based access
Safety and Driver Assistance Features
Kia has also packed the updated Stonic with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), such as:
- Blind-spot monitoring
- Forward collision avoidance assist
- Smart cruise control
These features aim to make the compact SUV safer and more appealing to families and young urban drivers.
Europe Launch Coming Soon
While the Korean version is now official, European specifications and pricing will be disclosed in the coming months. Kia is expected to tailor features and performance figures to meet local market demands.
The Stonic remains one of Kia’s most important models in the competitive compact crossover SUV market, and with its fresh styling, improved technology, and greener engine options, the 2026 version is set to strengthen its position against rivals like the Ford Puma and Nissan Juke.
