Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. has announced revised car prices across its entire portfolio, passing on the benefit of the government’s recent GST rate cut to customers. With this change, popular models like the Alto K10, WagonR, Swift, Baleno, and Grand Vitara are now significantly more affordable.

The new prices come into effect from September 22, 2025, making this one of the most impactful updates in India’s automobile pricing in recent years.

GST Rationalisation: What Changed

On September 4, 2025, the government announced a major GST rationalisation, reducing the tax slabs from four (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) to two (5% and 18%).

  • Small cars (under 4 metres, with petrol engines ≤1200cc or diesel engines ≤1500cc) will now attract 18% GST.
  • Bigger cars/luxury cars (over 4 metres, with engines larger than the above thresholds) will fall under the new 40% GST slab.
  • Electric vehicles continue at just 5% GST, the lowest bracket.

This restructuring has made small cars much cheaper, while SUVs and larger vehicles continue to attract higher taxation.

Maruti Suzuki’s New Prices After GST Cut

As the country’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki stands to gain the most, since a majority of its sales come from small cars. Here’s the updated model-wise price list:

  • S-Presso: Now starts at ₹3,49,900 (up to ₹1,29,600 cheaper)
  • Alto K10: Now starts at ₹3,69,900 (₹1,07,600 cheaper)
  • Celerio: Now starts at ₹4,69,900 (₹94,100 cheaper)
  • WagonR: Now starts at ₹4,98,900 (₹79,600 cheaper)
  • Ignis: Now starts at ₹5,35,100 (₹71,300 cheaper)
  • Swift: Now starts at ₹5,78,900 (₹84,600 cheaper)
  • Baleno: Now starts at ₹5,98,900 (₹86,100 cheaper)
  • Dzire: Now starts at ₹6,25,600 (₹87,700 cheaper)
  • Fronx: Now starts at ₹6,84,900 (₹1,12,600 cheaper)

Why Some Cars Still Cost More

While most small cars have benefited from the GST cut, not every Maruti model qualifies.

For example:

  • The Jimny, despite being under 4 metres, has a 1.5-litre petrol engine, pushing it into the 40% GST slab.
  • The Ertiga, though powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine, measures over 4.3 metres in length, also making it a “bigger car” under GST rules.

This means a model must meet both length and engine-size criteria to enjoy the lower 18% GST.

Maruti Suzuki Victoris – Prices Inclusive of GST Cuts

Maruti’s latest SUV, the Victoris, has been priced inclusive of the new GST rates. Positioned between the Fronx and Grand Vitara, the Victoris comes with multiple engine options including strong-hybrid variants.

  • Victoris starting price: ₹10,49,900
  • Top-spec strong hybrid: ₹19,98,900

The SUV will be sold through Maruti Suzuki Arena showrooms and is expected to boost the company’s SUV market share further.

Maruti’s Big Push For 50% Market Share

Speaking about the reforms, Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava said the GST changes will improve competitiveness:

“Competition, combined with your ability to produce and sell at lower prices, makes for the best efficiency.”

With the Victoris launch and GST-led price cuts, Maruti is aiming to capture 50% market share, focusing on SUVs, safety, and multi-fuel strategies.

Final Takeaway

The GST cuts have given car buyers in India a reason to cheer, with price reductions of up to ₹1.29 lakh across Maruti’s portfolio. For budget-conscious buyers, models like the Alto K10, WagonR, and Swift are now more affordable than ever.

At the same time, SUVs like the Grand Vitara and Brezza have also seen meaningful price drops, strengthening Maruti’s position in the competitive SUV market.

For customers planning a purchase, this may be the best time to book a Maruti Suzuki car at lower prices before festive season demand picks up.
