Lava is gearing up to launch its next mid-range smartphone, the Lava Shark 2, in India soon. The company has officially confirmed one of the key specifications — the handset will feature a 50-megapixel AI triple rear camera setup.
The new model will succeed the Lava Shark 5G, which debuted earlier this year in May. Ahead of its official release, Lava has shared a teaser on social media that offers a glimpse into the phone’s design and camera layout.
Lava Shark 2: Design and Camera Details
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Lava Mobiles announced that the upcoming Lava Shark 2 will sport a 50MP AI-powered triple camera system. The teaser image showcases a new rectangular camera island that closely resembles the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max, hinting at a more premium design direction.
Inside the camera module, a “50MP AI Camera” branding is clearly visible, along with an LED flash. The triple-sensor setup is expected to offer improved image processing and AI-driven enhancements such as automatic scene detection, better low-light performance, and optimized color correction.
The Lava Shark 2 will likely focus on providing better camera performance and more professional-grade photography features compared to its predecessor.
Subtle Design Updates and Build
According to the teaser and early leaks, the Lava Shark 2 will retain much of its predecessor’s design language but with refined detailing.
The phone will feature a waterdrop-style notch for the front camera, while the power and volume buttons will be positioned on the right side of the frame. The left edge remains clean and minimalistic.
At the bottom, the handset includes a USB Type-C port, microphone, speaker grille, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, ensuring full connectivity options for everyday users.
The device has been teased in two color options — Blue and Silver — both paired with a metallic-finished frame, giving it a polished and modern aesthetic.
Expected Features and Performance
While Lava has not revealed full specifications yet, the Lava Shark 2 is expected to bring notable hardware and software upgrades over the Lava Shark 5G.
The earlier model, Lava Shark 5G, featured a 6.75-inch HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, powered by an octa-core 6nm Unisoc T765 SoC. It offered 4GB of RAM with an additional 4GB virtual RAM boost, 64GB of storage, and support for up to 1TB microSD expansion.
The Shark 5G also came with a 13MP dual rear camera, a 5MP selfie shooter, and a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support.
With the Shark 2, users can expect upgrades such as a more advanced chipset, better display resolution, and enhanced AI-based camera capabilities.
Connectivity and Software
Like its predecessor, the Lava Shark 2 is expected to support 5G connectivity, along with standard options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and GLONASS. The phone will likely ship with Android 15 out of the box, offering a clean, near-stock software experience — something Lava has consistently emphasized in its smartphones.
Lava’s Growing Momentum in the Mid-Range Segment
The Lava Shark 2 continues the company’s strategy of offering feature-packed smartphones designed and made in India at accessible price points.
After the success of models like the Blaze X and Shark 5G, Lava is positioning itself as a strong competitor to Chinese OEMs in the sub-₹15,000 segment by emphasizing camera innovation, durable design, and local manufacturing.
With the confirmation of its 50MP AI triple camera and premium iPhone-inspired look, the Lava Shark 2 could become one of the most anticipated budget smartphones this festive season.
More details — including pricing, chipset, and availability — are expected to be revealed in the coming days.
