Honda is gearing up for a massive product expansion in India, with ten new models planned by 2030, including seven SUVs, as part of its global growth strategy. The announcement was made by Toshihiro Mibe, Director, President, and Representative Executive Officer of Honda Motor Co., during an interaction at the Japan Mobility Show 2025.
India to Play Key Role in Honda’s Global Strategy
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Mibe confirmed that India will play a central role in Honda’s global expansion, alongside Japan and North America. He acknowledged the growing competition from Chinese automakers and emphasized India’s strategic importance, stating,
“We wish to push more effort into the Indian market than ever before.”
With nearly three decades of presence in India, Honda continues to be one of the most trusted automotive brands in the country. The company now aims to reinvigorate its local portfolio to meet evolving consumer preferences and electrification goals.
Honda 0 Series Alpha EV Confirmed for India
At the Japan Mobility Show, Honda unveiled the third iteration of its new 0 Series EV platform, which will underpin its next generation of electric vehicles.
The first model from this lineup, the Honda 0 Series Alpha (0 α), has been confirmed for launch in India and Japan by 2027. The midsize electric SUV will be manufactured locally in India, serving both domestic and export markets. This marks a major step towards establishing India as a global EV manufacturing hub for Honda.
Ten New Cars by 2030 — Seven Will Be SUVs
Honda currently sells three passenger vehicles in India — the Amaze, City, and Elevate. However, this limited portfolio is set to expand significantly in the coming years.
According to Mibe, Honda will introduce 10 new models by 2030, with seven of them being SUVs. These include both global models and India-specific SUVs, designed to cater to the country’s fast-growing demand for utility vehicles.
Among the upcoming products could be a compact SUV based on the Amaze or City platform, aimed at the sub-4-metre segment — a space where Honda has been notably absent.
Additionally, the next-generation Honda City is expected to arrive within the next couple of years, featuring updated design and technology.
New Architecture for the 0 Series Alpha
Honda has confirmed that the 0 Series Alpha EV will be based on a brand-new electric architecture, separate from existing ICE platforms. The SUV will share some design cues with the Honda Elevate, but will represent a major leap in technology, connectivity, and efficiency.
The move also signifies Honda’s renewed push toward sustainable mobility, aligning with its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
A New Era for Honda India
Honda’s decision to significantly expand its Indian portfolio marks a strong comeback strategy after years of limited model availability. The upcoming lineup is expected to cover multiple SUV segments, from compact crossovers to premium electric SUVs.
While the Elevate has helped Honda re-establish itself in the midsize SUV market, the company now aims to capture new customer segments faster — especially with the 0 Series Alpha EV leading its electrification roadmap.
